OSI Group is an American Success Story

OSI Group is an American success story that began in 1909. Its founder was a German immigrant named Otto Kolschowsky. Otto arrived in the United States with the dream of making himself into a successful businessman. He put down his roots in the Chicago area and grew his business slowly by building great relationships. By 1928 Otto had opened a second facility in a suburb of Chicago. At this time his company was known as Otto and Sons.

Otto and Sons developed a working relationship with the McDonald’s Corporation in the 1950s. McDonald’s was being led by the visionary Ray Kroc. Ray Kroc would go on to pioneer the franchise business concept in the United States and later around the world. The McDonald’s Corporation selected Otto and Sons to be one of its many meat suppliers throughout the country. Their focus was in the Illinois region. Over the years McDonald’s worked closely with Arthur and Harry who were the sons of the original founder. As McDonald’s grew to International success so did Otto and Sons.

Otto and Sons continued to experience tremendous growth. The family-owned organization soon got the opportunity to be one of the exclusive suppliers of product to the McDonald’s Corporation. They responded to this responsibility by bringing new technology to the industry. The meat patty cutting machine and cryogenic freezing chambers revolutionized the way food manufacturers handled business.

Otto and Sons became known as OSI Group by 1975. At this point it had been in business for nearly seven decades. Its influence has spread to an international level. As OSI Group continued to evolve as the original owners settled into retirement. Sheldon Lavin was eventually brought in to guide the organization to its future success.

OSI Group built a high-end meat processing plant in 1973. The plant was dedicated to meeting the contract with the McDonald’s Corporation. The organization continued to grow opening other facilities across the United States and around the world. These areas included West Jordan, Utah, as well as international locations in Brazil, Mexico, Hungary, Poland and the Pacific Rim.

In 2016 Forbes Magazine listed OSI Group as the 58th largest privately owned company in the United States. The company pushes for growth and maintains its aggressive international vision. The corporate philosophy allows OSI to provide the best opportunities possible for its employees and clients.
